Course Description

The course provides an introduction to the importance of colour measurement in the industry and practical examples of measuring the color of different product types. Specifically, the course will cover the following topics: - Colorimetry in the Industry - Defining Tolerances - Sample Preparation Techniques for Colorimetry - Calibration and Validation

Target Audience

Anyone with interest in colour measurement, the scales used and problems arising from sample preparation and how to validate instruments to international standards. Example Attendees would be personnel from Quality Assurance and Research and Development. The course is suitable for both Managers and Operators.

Course Outline

Colorimetry in the Industry An explanation on “why do we need to measure color?” and an introduction to the varying color scales currently in use in the differing industries. Defining Tolerances Clarification as to why the determination of tolerances is an important practice to ensure that defined tolerances ‘pass what needs to pass’ and ‘fail what needs to fail’. Sample Preparation Techniques for Colorimetry A large number of errors in the measurement of samples for colorimetry can be attributed to the preparation and presentation of the sample to the instrument. Preparation is key: some on-hand examples of how various product types should be prepared. Calibration and Validation A look at the latest innovations with an introduction to the novel technique of Calibration and Validation over the internet using ISO 17025 certified reference materials.

Course Instructor's Biography

Marke Reid has international responsibility for Sales and Marketing at The Tintometer Ltd where, for the last 5 years, he has been instrumental in driving the strategy for color measurement solutions. Prior to The Tintometer Ltd, Reid spent 20 years working for Instrumental Colour Systems, Datacolor and Konica Minolta where he mastered his technical skills with on-hand experience in Applications Engineering and Training, installing and programming colour measurement systems on-site. Reid’s experience in color and understanding of the industry has benefitted many applications where he has advised on and helped implement enhanced color quality control. Reid has an HND in Textile Colouration from the Leicester School of Chemistry, United Kingdom.
