Abstract Content
Most piezoelectric materials change shape in bulk films by both rearrangement of grains and nanoscale distortion of atomic unit cells. In our work, we characterize the response of single molecular monolayers on smooth gold surfaces using piezo-response atomic force microscopy. We demonstrate that simple microconact printing techniques can easily pattern piezoelectric films, and that correctly-designed organic molecules can yield high piezoelectric response. To improve the quality of our pattered films, we have investigated the use of TEM grids as masters for stamp formations.
