Particle characteristics-size, size distribution, shape, and surface area significantly impact performance of many materials. One dramatic example is that fine powders can be explosive even if the bulk material is not. More common examples include the effect of particle size on blending, dose uniformity, or dissolution. There are a number of techniques for particle analysis, including laser diffraction, dynamic light scattering, image analysis, and sieving. Furthermore, the effect of sampling and dispersion on results is significant and often independent of the choice of analysis technique. In this session we will discuss particle size analysis and related topics such as surface area and shape analysis. Bring your questions and problems and enjoy a lively discussion.
