Course Description
Liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry (LC-MS) technique is widely being used for every field of chemistry. The basic instrumentation as well as use of software for the data analysis is extremely important for the first time user. Both high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) and mass spectrometer (MS) comprised of several components. It is extremely important to know the basic operation of all the components and minor trouble shooting to run LC-MS effectively and efficiently.

Target Audience
This course is targeted for the beginners and the users of LC-MS technology. The chemists from the Academia as well as from industry who are using and who will be using the LC-MS in future will be benefited from the content of this course.

Course Outline
- Short overview of the components of HPLC unit.
- Basic principle of chromatography
- Choice of mobile phase for the best separation of analytes
- Use of mass spectrometer (MS) as LC-MS and stand alone.
- Basic principle of mass spectrometry and tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS)
- Trouble shooting (minor)
- Data Interpretation
- Structure elucidation from MS/MS data
- Maintenance of instruments for best use
