Course Description
This course will provide an introduction to Ion Chromatography with practical, industry-based applications. Challenges encountered in real-world samples from environmental, petrochemical, chemical, power utility, and pharmaceutical applications will be discussed. Optimization of chromatographic conditions, column and detector selection, sample preparation, and basic trouble shooting will be covered in this course.

Target Audience
Practical approaches are discussed to address the challenges with ion chromatography applications. The course is ideal for lab chemists, quality control personnel, Analytical chemist involved in method development, and managers who need to learn the Ion chromatography and application.

Course Outline
IC has become an important tools for the anions, cations, amines, organic acids, carbohydrates, amino acids in variety of industries. This short course will provide practical introduction to ion chromatography and the method development aspects. This course will serve as a practical, non-theoretical, introduction to IC, based on real world sample matrices. This course will give clear understanding of the challenges associated with IC method developments based on real world samples. This course will emphasis on optimization of chromatographic conditions, column and detection method selection, sample preparation and basic trouble shooting. Key regulatory methods using Ion chromatography, from environmental, petrochemical, chemical, Power and pharmaceutical will be discussed.

Course Instructor's Biography
Carlos Bazán has been a part of Metrohm USA for 11 years in the roles of Service Chemist, IC Trainer, IC Installation Manager, Technical Support Manager, and is the current Training Manager. In that time he has developed the IC training curricula, conducted numerous customer and internal courses, as well as developing IC methods, installation and technical support processes, and tutorials. He received his B.Sc in Marine Biology from Texas A&M University and has a background in teaching life and physical sciences in the secondary educational system. Jay Sheffer has over 14 years of experience in analytical chemistry with hands-on experience on IC, HPLC, GC-MS, ICP-MS, MALDI-TOF, and UV-Vis/FTIR spectroscopy. Jay received his B.Sc in Chemistry from Elon University and an M.Sc degree in Analytical Chemistry from Emory University. Jay Sheffer is presently a Technical Applications Specialist with Metrohm USA, where he has focused on ion chromatography applications for the past 3 years.
