Course Description
Introduction to ICP-MS covers analytical figures of merit, common applications, instrumentation, sample preparation, contamination control, interference compensation, and validation of analytical results. The course covers all the available instruments and emphasizes concepts. Training courses at instrument companies cover only their own instrumentation (and mostly just running their software) and spends little time on how the instruments actually work. This course is similar to that taught yearly since approximately 1989, with annual updates, of course.

Target Audience
Scientists contemplating starting ICP-MS work themselves, or using instrumentation for their applications. Beginning and intermediate users and operators of ICP-MS instrumentation. Students and researchers who want a quick survey of the field.

Course Outline
1.GENERAL ANALYTICAL CAPABILITIES
2.ICP AS ION SOURCE
3.SAMPLE PREP & SAMPLE INTRO
4.ION EXTRACTION, TRANSMISSION AND FOCUSING
