|This course will provide a comprehensive survey of the current LC/MS-based approaches for quantitation. Instrumentation, strategies, and methods will be presented with specific focus on: sample preparation, chromatography, ionization, and mass spectrometry. The balance between high performance and high throughput will be critically examined using real-world examples. Straightforward tips for dealing with carry over and matrix effects, two common problems associated with LC/MS approaches for quantitation, will be described. Emerging trends for high performance quantitation that involve the use ultra high performance liquid chromatography, nanospray, and accurate mass analysis techniques will be discussed.
|The purpose is to assist scientists with knowledge and practical skills leading to the generation of reliable information in a research or academic setting. The course is ideal for a beginner who is relatively new to the field or an expert/manager who is in need of an updated perspective on current strategies and emerging analytical technologies.

Course Instructor's Biography
|Dr. Richard C. King has over 16 years of industrial experience in the pharmaceutical industry. He was active in the field of mass spectrometry and he led preclinical drug metabolism studies at Merck Research Laboratories from 1994-2008. An expert in bioanalysis and the integration of new technologies into an industrialized workflow, Dr. King has participated in the growth of quantitative mass spectrometry via his work on ion formation mechanisms, ion chemistry, separation sciences, automation, and data processing. He obtained his Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from Drexel University under the direction of Professor Kevin Owens. Dr. King founded PharmaCadence, a preclinical contract research organization, in 2008.
Dr. Mike S. Lee has extensive experience with pharmaceutical analysis and drug development. He has pioneered the application of LC/MS in different phases of drug development for research in biomolecules, natural products, drug metabolites, impurities, and degradants. Dr. Lee was with Bristol-Myers Squibb from 1987-1998. As a director of analytical research & development, Dr. Lee was responsible for departments in several research facilities providing MS, NMR, IR, HPLC, CE, and physical chemistry support. He obtained his Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from the University of Florida under the direction of Professor Richard A. Yost. Dr. Lee has been president of Milestone Development Services since 1998 and actively participates in the growth of new technologies and their integration into drug development.
